Station and Grounds

Our Grounds

Click here for Appin Holiday Homes News

We are fortunate in our position, being on the shoreline of Loch Creran with spectacular views to the hills beyond. The grounds themselves are stunning with many trees and wildflowers. We even have a disused railway line running through the grounds, complete with old railway station.

While you are staying with us you can:

  • Hire out one of our rowing boats and watch seals at play or fish.
  • Take a walk, there are several in the area including long level walking on the old railway line or for the more adventurous try visiting the old graveyard halfway up Creagan hill behind the chalets.
  • Let the kids chill out in our well equipped games room with table football, snooker table and soft play area.

Loch Creran

Loch Creran

Carved from the rock by glaciers during the last ice age, Loch Creran lies sheltered amongst the mountains of Argyll and the islands of the Lynn of Lorn.

The waters harbour a diverse range of marine species. Loch Creran is one of only three places in Europe where you will find biogenic reefs – living structures on the seabed constructed by tube-building worms and mussels, and it is now a European Marine Site. When the tide goes out walk along the shore and you could find a wide variety of wildlife stranded under seaweed and rocks waiting for the tide to turn or seals and otters searching for their next meal.

Creagan Station

Creagan Station is the last remaining one on the old Oban - Ballachulish railway line. The original route took passengers on one of the most spectacular train journeys in Britain. Hugging the coastline from Oban it followed three lochs and passed over two bridges one at Connel and one at Appin both of which are now road bridges. Sadly in the 1960s the line was closed. The building has recently been renovated and provides a lovely backdrop to one of our picnic areas.
